That's why we want to share the results of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) 18th Annual Top Technology Initiatives survey. For the fifth consecutive year, the survey identified "Information Security" as the technology initiative expected to have the greatest effect in the next 12 - 18 months. A related initiative in the Top Technology Initiatives list was Identity and Access Management which jumped from sixth place in 2006 to second in 2007. Privacy Management also made its way up from fifth to fourth place, while four new initiatives made their debut in this year's top 10: Securing and controlling Information Distribution; Mobile and Remote Computing; Electronic Archiving and Data Retention; and Document, Content and Knowledge Management. More than 1,500 participants in the survey included a cross-section of AICPA and external technology organizations. Survey participants rated 30 technologies, choosing those they felt would have the most significant impact to businesses in the next 12 to 18 months.
