A new tax scam has the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) concerned as it uses a website that looks almost identical to the IRS e-Services online registration page. Reports like these are not uncommon as scammers use sites like this to trick people into giving out their personal and financial information. The official address of the IRS is www.irs.gov. Don’t be misled by sites claiming to be the IRS – double check to make sure they end in .gov, not .com, .org, or .net.

If you come across a suspicious website, please alert the IRS by sending an email to phishing@irs.gov with the site’s URL. Use the subject line, ‘Suspicious website.’ Please be aware that the IRS does not respond to any emails regarding taxpayer’s personal or financial information. If you would like to learn more about phishing scams and how to protect yourself against them, please visit www.irs.gov.
